Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County Gala

PSD WINS PINNACLE AWARD FROM BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF BUCKS COUNTY!

Palisades School District was named a Pinnacle Award winner at last Thursday's Gala Event held at Warrington CC.  This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Big Brothers Big Sisters - notably, it costs approximately $2500 to set up and train a BIG to make a match with a LITTLE for one year, but this amount of money can make a life changing difference for a child!  The profound effect this program has on high school students as leaders and on elementary students as recipients of mentoring.

We are so proud and honored to receive this award which is presented to "select individuals or organizations whose contributions of time, talent, or treasure has made a significant positive impact to benefit youth in our community over the past year."

Pictured above (l to r):  Dr. Bridget O'Connell (Superintendent), Donna Holmes (grant funding), Marie Collie (Principal of Durham Nox), Amber Schlosser (Assistant Principal of PHS) and Silvia LeBlanc (School Board President).  Not pictured is Sandi Shaeffer (Math Teacher PHS/PALMS) - Sandi never took her foot of of the gas when organizing this program with BBBS; even COVID could not hold her back!  Thanks Sandi for your effort on behalf of our students!

Youth Leadership Summit

YOUTH LEADERSHIP SUMMIT:

On Thursday, three members of our Kids for Kindness Club attended the Special Olympics Youth Leadership Summit at Bucks County Community College. Students had the opportunity to participate in numerous activities to help build leadership skills needed to promote a Unified environment within our school. Once we got back to the high school, Grace, Ello, and Cameron shared what they learned with the rest of the group. The club members are very eager to begin planning school engagement activities for the entire school to continue to promote inclusion for all students within our school building.

PALMS/PHS STUDENTS VISIT PENN MUSEUM:

If you have not had the opportunity to visit the Penn Museum in Philadelphia...try to do it!  Penn Museum, formerly known as The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, is an archaeology and anthropology museum at the University of Pennsylvania. It is located on Penn's campus in the University City neighborhood of Philadelphia, at the intersection of 33rd and South Streets.

Special thanks to Mrs. Kesilman for arranging this outstanding experience for our PAL students!  There is so much to see and enjoy for all of us history geeks! Ancient artifacts from countries like Egypt, Africa, Asia and Mesopotamia are on display at this very interesting, magical museum!  TOTALLY worth the trip!
