Patch 100623

PALISADES WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE PA YOUTH SURVEY AGAIN THIS YEAR:
Palisades School District is once again taking part in the 2023 Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS) sponsored by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.  Although many other school districts in Pennsylvania administer this survey to 6th graders, Palisades surveys students in 8th, 10th and 12th grades only.  This survey will ask questions about the perceptions and behaviors of our students.  It includes questions concerning school climate, violence, depression, bullying, and substance abuse.
Palisades has participated in this survey in the past; follow this link to access past PAYS reports - PAYS Reports

The information we receive will assist us and our community partners to develop those protective factors that help to prevent adolescent drug use as well as other problem behaviors.  Parents/guardians have the right to opt your child out of taking the survey.  The following facts concerning the survey will help you to make an informed decision about your child’s participation:
1. Participation in this survey is completely voluntary.  Students will be instructed by their proctor that they may skip any questions they do not understand or choose not to answer.  They also will be instructed to talk with their school counselor or a trusted adult if they have any questions or concerns after taking this survey.
2. The survey is designed to protect each student’s privacy.  It is anonymous and confidential.  Students will not put their names on the survey and no student will ever have their individual responses reported.
3. The survey is well tested, having been administered to Pennsylvania students since 1989. The information collected has proved invaluable to prevention planners in selecting programming to promote healthy youth development locally and statewide. This has been a valuable tool used in Comprehensive Planning and program development in our district.

You may request a list of the survey questions by visiting the following link:  https://www.episcenter.psu.edu/index.php/paysquestion.  For more information about this survey, including a list of frequently asked questions, please visit www.pays.pa.gov and click on “2023 PAYS administration.”
