Rory McMullen

Please join the Palisades Middle School family in congratulating Rory McMullen (center along with Dr. Scheibenhofer and Mrs. McGorrey) for being the recipient of the Citadel Heart of Learning Award.

The Citadel Heart of Learning Awards is one of Citadel Credit Union's longest standing initiatives and was founded 23 years ago to recognize local teachers across the Greater Philadelphia area who go above and beyond the call of duty.  Thousands of nominations are submitted each year by students, parents, colleagues, and others throughout Greater Philly.

Rory received $1,000 to supplement his classroom along with a treasured glass heart award.

Kudos Mr. McMullen, well deserved!

National History Day Awards

Good News for Palisades at the National History Day Competition!!!
Two groups of students represented Palisades this weekend and BOTH groups came home with awards!

Joey Lipton (9th grade), Lily Clifford (9th grade) and Nico Leblanc (8th grade)

Joey, Lily, and Nico spent countless hours, outside of school, working on this project. Their individual skill sets complimented each other, and they were driven forward by a shared curiosity, determination and creativity.  Words cannot explain the depth and breadth of this group's research, but their documentary can! You will be able to see the dedication they put into their script and video. Please watch!  This group won FIRST place in their division and category, and will be advancing to compete in the state competition, held at Scranton University, at the end of April.

Group Documentary: Covered Bridges of Bucks County
by Ana Chilton, Gabby Holmes & Olivia Bowen (all 6th grade)

Ana, Gabby and Olivia worked very hard to research, write a script, interview experts, find footage and images, record (and re-record) and edit video, in order to create a documentary for the National History Day competition. They went beyond online research and spent a day with a local historian, visiting the bridges, learning about them and taking pictures. This was their first time creating a documentary, and their documentary won The Pennsylvania State History Award! This project was a huge undertaking, and I am very proud of their research, teamwork and their perseverance!  Watch their documentary here!

Please join me in congratulating all six of these PIRATES on a job well done!

SESAME STREET TEAM NEEDS YOUR HELP!

The following info and questionnaire will support our students as they head onto state competition for National History Day.  Thank you in advance for your participation.

Did you watch Sesame Street as a kid? If so, we need your help. We are a group of high school and middle school students participating in a competition called NHD. This year's theme is Turning Points in History, so we made a documentary about Sesame Street's impact on children's education and media. After winning the regional competition, we have a month to refine our project before the state competition. If you watched Sesame Street as a kid, we would love to hear from you. Please answer these two simple questions to help us gather information. We really appreciate your help with this!
