PALMS SHINES AGAIN!  Notes from Mrs. Kesilman:

I am very proud of Lily Clifford, Noah Diez, Julianna Hershey and Joseph Lipton for the work and determination they put into their 10 minute documentary entitled How Oscar Hammerstein II Changed Musical and Cultural Frontiers.  They participated in the National History Day project regional competition at Delaware Valley University on March 18th.  These four students won first place for their documentary and are moving on to the state competition, which takes place at Scranton University, on April 22nd and 23rd. Lily, Noan, Julianna and Joey worked together and overcame many obstacles during this process. They learned a lot about formal research, finding and interviewing experts, evaluating sources, arranging museum visits with experts, script writing, annotating bibliographies, recording, video creation and the arduous task of video editing. Lily was unable to attend the contest in person because she was in the BCMEA orchestra at the same time.  The group created a cardboard cutout of Lily to take with them, and the superhuman Lily Clifford was able to be in two places at one time!  Best of luck to this group next month at the state competition!

YLEAD Summer Youth Leadership Program

The 2023 YLEAD summer youth leadership program that will be held in July 2023 for high school students.

YLEAD is an opportunity for high school students from across the Lehigh Valley to come together for leadership skills, community engagement and developing new relationships.  YLEAD combines in person learning with community service projects in support of our nonprofit community.

For 2023 the program will be held for two separate weeks.  July 10th to July 14th and then again on July 24th to July 28th.  Each week is a new cohort of students.  The program is led by two summer college interns and is a great networking and skill development opportunity for high school students.

Please see the flyer at this link for more details or visit their website at www.volunteerlv.org/Y-LEAD. Each cohort is limited to 18 students and there is a $100 fee for the program.  The organization does also have scholarships to offer.

Voter Registration

The local chapter of the League of Women Voters will be coming to Palisades High School on April 26th to help students who are 18 register to vote.  They will be here during all three lunches on Wednesday the 26th.  Seniors, please look for them outside the cafeteria if you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity.  All you will need is a copy of your driver's license or the last four digits of your social security number.

Cybersonics

Cybersonics Team 103

Best of luck to our robotics team - they will be competing in districts next week at Lehigh University on April 6. 7. and 8!  You say CYBER...I say SONICS!  Go Team 103!
